The Royal Opera House in London is a major performing arts venue in Covent Garden. A large building often referred to as Covent Garden. Its the home of The Royal Opera, The Royal Ballet and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. Originally named the Theatre Royal, it started out as a playhouse for the first hundred years then in 1734 a ballet was presented and then operas began to be held. The current building is the third theatre after fires in 1808 and 1857. The façade, foyer and auditorium date from 1858, with other parts varying in replacement and renovation dates including a massive reconstruction in the 1990s. The Royal Opera House seats over 2000 people and consists of four tiers of boxes and balconies and amphitheatre gallery.
